We welcomed everyone to our second official Zeitgeist Movement European Meet‑Up in Kyiv, Ukraine!
The event began on 14 July 2019 at 15:00 and concluded on 16 July 2019.
Tickets were listed further down, but readers were asked to read the description first.
Our previous TZM European Meet‑Up had been held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in December 2015. We had enjoyed a fantastic time that far exceeded our expectations for such an event, leaving great memories for all who attended. We wanted to continue holding these meet‑ups and to try out new ideas that had not been possible the first time. We deliberately scheduled this next meet‑up for the summer so that participants could enjoy being outdoors rather than being confined by cold weather.
Hosting the event in Ukraine was especially meaningful for the movement, because Ukraine had been in the media spotlight for several years and had become a firsthand example of economic and political instability—conditions that the Zeitgeist Movement condemned and for which it advocated sustainable, scientifically sound alternatives to conventional politics and economics.
Location: Hotel Zelena Bucha – Kyiv, Bucha, Institutska Street 22 (Залена Буча – Київська обл., м. Буча, вул. Інститутська, 22).
Programme
The event took place at the Zelena Bucha resort hotel, surrounded by nature outside Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. We rented the entire hotel for three days, bringing together the eastern and western sides of European Zeitgeist members and friends to exchange information and ideas. A list of presenters from Ukraine, elsewhere in Europe, and other parts of the world was compiled for the three‑day schedule.
All catering consisted of fully vegan Ukrainian dishes, providing a great introduction to Ukrainian cuisine for foreign guests. Additional workshops and activities were organised as well. On the final day, we arranged a short tour of Kyiv for participants who could stay for it.
Presentations were delivered in English and Ukrainian. This was the first Zeitgeist event to feature real‑time translation; headsets were provided so everyone could hear a live translation of each talk. Language barriers did not stop us from uniting!
List of speakers
- Peter Joseph
- Cliff Schilling
- Oleksi Siriy
- Roman Tolmachov
Notice for foreign visitors to Ukraine
A passport was mandatory for all foreign citizens entering Ukraine, but a visa was not required. European travelers who usually travelled within Europe without a passport needed one for Ukraine, as the country was not a member of the European Union nor part of the Schengen Area.
Passport applications in Europe typically took up to three weeks or one month; many countries offered express services that could deliver a passport in a week, a few days, or even a few hours. Applicants were advised to check with their local city hall or its website for details.
Planning the trip to Ukraine
Before planning a trip, visitors were reminded that the event’s introductions and presentations started at 15:00 on 14 July, and the closing ceremony and optional Kyiv mini‑tour began around 15:00 on 16 July. Those wishing to experience the entire programme were encouraged to keep these times in mind.
After purchasing a ticket, attendees were asked to email us so we could add their names to the reservation list and indicate their arrival and departure details. Because English was not widely spoken, we requested this information to organise shuttle transfers from the airports or stations to the hotel, as taxi drivers sometimes struggled with directions.
Shuttle buses were dispatched to Kyiv Boryspil International Airport, Kyiv‑Pasazhyrskyi railway station, and Kyiv Central Bus Station. Buses left early on 14 July and continued running at intervals around the event’s start time to collect as many participants as possible. Travelers arriving before the 14th were asked to notify us by email so a member of the Ukrainian Chapter could pick them up and bring them to accommodation.
Accommodation
For participants staying for the whole event, accommodation at the hotel was included with the ticket. Only 70 tickets that included lodging were available, but the total number of participants was not limited. Guests who could not secure an accommodation‑included ticket received recommendations for nearby hotels or hostels within walking distance of Zelena Bucha. These alternative lodgings were paid for by the guest, though we continued to help with transportation. A reduced‑price ticket was also offered, granting access to the event, food, and beverages. Further details could be obtained by emailing us.
Departures
We recognised that attendees might need to leave at different times and might not be able to stay for the post‑event city tour on 16 July. As with arrival information, guests were asked to inform us of their departure plans so we could arrange transport to their chosen destinations.

Donations
For those unable to attend but wishing to support the initiative, we accepted donations. All proceeds covered costs incurred by the Ukrainian Chapter and helped members or friends who could not otherwise afford to attend. Additional funds were earmarked for future events organized by the Ukrainian Chapter.
It was exciting to witness the Zeitgeist Movement grow, reach Eastern Europe, and bring together western and eastern members to exchange ideas and learn from one another. After years of turmoil, this meeting was much needed in Ukraine.
Ukraine required fresh visions and ideas, moving beyond outdated monetary concepts toward real, sustainable alternatives—an inspiration for the rest of the world.
The revolution is now –тож вперед!
With loving greetings from Ukraine,
Zeitgeist Movement Ukraine
