The 12th annual Zeitgeist Day Global Main Event was hosted by TZM Iceland via the videoconferencing platform Zoom on November 28th, 2020. Originally, the event was scheduled to take place at the Harpa Conference Center, located in the heart of Reykjavík, Iceland, in mid-July 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was postponed to November 28th and transitioned entirely online. This shift was necessary because of international travel disruptions and restrictions on gatherings during that period.
This marked a truly unique and eye-opening event for The Zeitgeist Movement—Iceland, and notably, it was the first global TZM event held in the country and the first to be conducted entirely online.
The program featured an original lineup of speakers, with all presentations delivered by new voices who had not participated in previous global events. This was also the first global Zeitgeist Day without any involvement or participation from the movement's founder, Peter Joseph.
The core themes of the event focused on refining the movement’s goals and values, especially how they are communicated to the public. The program showcased diverse perspectives, with speakers sharing insights on innovative projects and reflections that hadn't been previously explored within the movement. Questions such as if the progression of technology going to be the answer for a better civilization, or is it going to require much more than that? What does our current global financial situation and changes in the environment mean for Iceland and the rest of the world? What visions and changes do you want to see now and in the future?
At the conclusion of the event, an initiative called TZM 2.0 was launched, aiming to propel the movement further toward its objectives. Additionally, the first-ever Code of Conduct for the movement was published following a large discussion on the movement’s Discord server the next day.
